Want to be the CEO of a Fortune 500 company? Here is a list of the top 10 institutions that granted MBAs to current CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, according to U.S. News & World Report:
|Institution||# of M.B.A.’s||U.S. News Business School Rank|
|University of Pennsylvania||13||3|
|University of Michigan–Ann Arbor||5||13|
|University of Virginia||4||13|
|Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey–New Brunswick||3||63|
Note that, with the exception of Harvard, there appears to be little correlation between the U.S. News Business School Rank and the number of Fortune 500 CEOs produced. Some Fortune 500 CEOs didn’t even go to college!! According to U.S. News & World Report, the 500 executives collectively have 465 college degrees, meaning about 35 executives did not graduate from college.
This just goes to show that the rank of the school you go to does not guarantee the quality of the job you will receive upon graduation. Even after you have been admitted to a top MBA program, it is important to keep working hard and make yourself stand out from the crowd. Businesses want to hire innovators, not just people who have a brand-name diploma.
